Jerome's Furniture Creates 1st Furniture Marketplace in Murrieta

San Diego, Calif - January 10, 2013

Jerome's Furniture has announced the grand opening of its first furniture marketplace in Murrieta.  The Jerome's Marketplace will offer three specialty furniture stores in one location, allowing consumers to "one-stop-shop" for all their home needs, including design services in one place.

The newly expanded flagship Jerome's Furniture store in the marketplace offers furniture to families that want to shop in an environment with no gimmicks and no coupons required.  The recent expansion allows for even greater selection of styles than ever before.

The new Dreamshop at the Jerome's Marketplace brings expertise and a relaxed shopping experience when families decide it's time for a new mattress.  Jerome's certified sleep specialists will be stationed at this store full-time to educate consumers on how to get a better night's sleep.  The Dreamshop will be stocked with brand names such as Serta and Simmons, but will also carry Jerome's Furniture private label, Jerome's bestselling line.  In the San Diego area, 25% of all mattresses purchased are bought at a Jerome's Dreamshop, according to a Jerome's press release.

Jerry's Bloopers is the 3rd store in the Marketplace.  Chairman of Jerome's, owner and staple on TV; Jerry Navarra says, "The Blooper store is where we get rid of furniture that makes me say 'uh-oh.'  We call them 'Bloopers.'  Sometimes a manufacturer makes too many chairs and we get a great deal.  Sometimes things get nicked or scratched in the warehouse, and sometimes I just get things wrong.  It's a great place for a customer to come and search out great deals.  It's a bit of a treasure hunt and merchandise changes on a daily basis."

"We are excited to announce this expansion," Navarra continued.  "We've been active in the Murrieta market since 2009 with amazing results.  It seems the community really responds to our styles, levels of service, and pricing strategy.  It was a natural evolution to offer more options to the area."

Free coffee -- affectionately known as Jerry's Java, fresh baked cookies and free Wi-Fi are available daily in every Jerome's store.  Jerome's will be celebrating all month long.

San Diego, Calif. - July 9, 2012

Cross-channel Marketing is Key - For retailers like Jerome's Furniture, a San Diego mainstay for nearly six decades, cross-channel marketing that deploys old and new media has become key to generating customer loyalty, and ultimately repeat-sales, over the long haul.

Vice President, Jim Navarra said the family-run company's sales and marketing efforts in recent years have moved well beyond the iconic local print and TV ads that still feature his father, company Chairman Jerome Navarra.

Jerome's Furniture now has an active presence on Facebook and its social rival site Google+, as well as Twitter, Yelp, and Pinterest.  The retailer's website has a link to the company's blog, called Home, where staffers discuss the latest news and trends in areas including home design, reorganizing, and remodeling.

"You can look at retailing as being transational, but you can also look at it as establishing an ongoing relationship with consumers," Jim Navarra said.  "That is what we're trying to do - give them ideas, keep them informed about things like design."

"We have found that it helps in terms of keeping people thinking of us, and it helps with our repeat business, which is very important," he added.

Jerome's Furniture Hosting our 2nd Annual Beach Clean-Up

La Jolla Shores, Calif - July 28, 2012

What: Jerome's Furniture is taking part in I Love A Clean San Diego's "Adopt-A-Beach" program this summer.  As the kick-off, the company invites the community to participate in a beach clean-up from 8:00am to 10:00am on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at La Jolla Shores Beach.  All volunteers will have a chance to win prizes and enjoy refreshments from Jerome's.

La Jolla Shores is a sandy beach approximately 1 mile long adjacent to the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Ecological Park Reserve.  During the summertime, waves at this beach are the most gently of all San Diego beaches attracting thousands of visitors and local families.  Unfortunately, lots of activities bring trash and debris that can pollute the environment without volunteers to keep the beach clean.

"With nearly 60 years in San Diego, we know how important area beaches are to our customers," said Jerry Navarra, Chairman of Jerome's.  "We are happy to bring some added fun with giveaways, food and prizes to all who roll up their sleeves for our community."

I Love A Clean San Diego is the San Diego County coordinator of the statewide Adopt-A-Beach program.  This program is great for groups who want to participate on an ongoing basis.  While the name suggests that only beaches are available for adoption, there are also a number of inland locations that need cleaning up.  Visit the Adopt-A-Beach website to learn more about adopting a local beach or inland area.

When: Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 8:00am - 10:00am

Where: La Jolla Shores, 8200 Camino del Oro, San Diego, CA 92037

San Diego, Calif - April 1, 2012 - Jim and Esther Navarra first opened the doors of discount furniture store Strep's Warehouse in Downtown San Diego in 1954.  About a decade later, the couple changed the name to Jerome's, to honor their son and current chairman, Jerome "Jerry" Navarra.  Jerome's has since become a household name in San Diego.  The young Navarra successfully morphed the "mom and pop" furniture store into one of the most popular furniture stores in the county.  Since Jerry took over operation of Jerome's in 1970, the popular chain has grown immensely.  There are now several stores all over the county including the city of San Diego, Chula Vista, El Cajon, the Scripps Ranch community, and San Marcos, as well as Murrieta, Corona and Rancho Cucamonga.  The furniture company's core mission is to provide everyday low prices to its customers - not limit them to time constrained sales offered by other by other furniture retailers.  Jerome's prides itself on its ability to find the best quality deals for the consumer and on great customer service - personally calling every customer upon delivery of their purchase to ensure satisfaction.  Last year Jerome's was named by the industry magazine, Furniture Today, as one of the fastest growing furniture retailers in the U.S. based on sales.  The company reported revenue of $95.5 million in 2010 and $102 million in 2011.

Jerome's Furniture Family's Matriarch - Esther Navarra 1919 - 2012

By Caroline Dippling, San Diego Union Tribune

San Diego, Calif. - March 16, 2012 - The quintessential Sicilian homemaker, Esther Navarra proudly kept her Mission Hills home filled with portraits of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  And her kitchen always bustled.

The matriarch of the Jerome's Furniture family was renowned for her Italian cooking, from the cioppino she served every Christmas Eve to the rich and melting eggplant parmigiana she taught friends and family how to make.

At her 90th birthday she provided the recipes and memories for what became the cookbook "Olives on the Table: Memories From a Sicilian Kitchen."

Mrs. Navarra was always quick to offer a bite to eat to her children's friends and she was never flustered when her husband unexpectedly brought home a sales rep for dinner.

"She could cook anything, and she did it with a lot of pleasure." said daughter Ann Navarra.  "She could cook for two or 200 and be fine about it."

Sam Patella, a childhood friend of Mrs. Navarra's son, Jerome, said the food "was always delicious, and she always offered.  I will always remember her as one of the sweetest, kindest, friendliest women I've ever known."

Mrs. Navarra died of natural causes on Thursday at her home.  She was 92.

San Diego Business Icon Reflects on 60 Years of Success

By Ryan Patruno, Special to The Daily Transcript

San Diego, Calif. - December 30, 2011 - The Navarra Family has been in the furniture business for more than 60 years, and as the third generation takes the reins of Jerome's Furniture, no one is more proud than Jerry Navarra.

“I am very proud of my three kids,” Navarra said. “I know the company is in good hands.”

Navarra is now the chairman of Jerome’s Furniture. However, to many San Diegans, he remains the iconic face on the Jerome’s Furniture commercials.

From humble Sicilian beginnings, Jim Navarra — Jerry’s father — co-founded Strep’s discount furniture warehouse in downtown San Diego, between E and F Street, in 1954.

Navarra’s earliest memory of working in the furniture business was at the impressionable age of 8 years old.

“I was at the opening [of Strep’s] serving Cokes,” Navarra said. “I received my first paycheck of two dollars, which was a lot of money for an eight-year-old to have in 1954.”

In 1960, Navarra’s father bought out his partners during the recession. The business struggled for many years to follow and in 1968 he changed the name to Jerome’s Furniture Warehouse.

Remembering those years, Navarra recalls his father as being a “hardworking, driven person.”

After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in business with an emphasis in marketing from the University of Southern California, and a master's in business administration from San Diego State University, Navarra went to work full-time for his father.

College paid off for Navarra, who, in just four years, helped turn the mom-and-pop operation into a highly successful family-run business. He changed the way the store did business by incorporating a “No Glitter” philosophy -- a phrase coined to explain the company's discounted prices through low overhead warehouse displays.

In 1974, Navarra became president of Jerome’s Furniture. Between 1980 and 1990, the company opened four new stores in El Cajon, Chula Vista, San Marcos and Scripps Ranch.

During his early years as president, Navarra remembers a meeting with members of another furniture company. A trusted associate told him: “This company will be broke in two years.” When Navarra asked his associate why he thought that, he said: “The management team did not hold any community or family values.”

“My associate was right, the company went bankrupt in a year and a half,” Navarra said.

Navarra attributes his company’s success to his trusted staff.

“I feel our team are true professionals in the industry,” Navarra said.

Jerome’s has also been a design leader in the mattress industry. In 1982, Jerome’s created the first directional mattress, which provides more stability and lasts longer than the conventional mattress.

In recent news, the Navarra family has assembled a team of architects and developers to work on designs for the “Upper East Village” project, also referred to as the I.D.E.A. district. The expected contributions of the original Jerome’s Furniture (formerly Strep’s) along with other properties will be part of nearly 3 million square feet of space for new sustainable, mixed-use development in the East Village. If the plans go through, the project will be the biggest development project for the neighborhood since Petco Park and is expected to generate millions of dollars and thousands of jobs to the construction industry.

Navarra credits his success to his father, who taught him the value of hard work, his trusted team and his best friend and wife of 40 years, Eleanor.

“We may not be perfect, but we have learned a lot of lessons over the years,” Navarra said.

Lessons he has passed down to his children, who in turn will pass down to their children and continue the legacy of Jerome’s.

"A traditional customer service department is reactive, but in today's connected and fast-paced world it requires more," said Lee Goodman, president and CEO of Jerome's.  "We are pushing deeper into our connections with customers to make sure we're meeting their needs and that they feel compelled to share their positive experience with others."

San Diego-based and family-owned Jerome’s Furniture (Jerome’s) knows that San Diegan’s love their Chargers.  This year, Jerome’s is bringing back its popular “Best Seat at the Q” promotion with a special game date set aside for the heroes recognized as part of the Challenged Athletes Foundation’s (CAF) Operation Rebound, which provides unparalleled sport opportunities and support for U.S. troops and veterans of any branch of service and first responders who have served honorably and have suffered permanent physical injuries.

The “Best Seat at the Q” promotion gives fans the opportunity to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  All are welcome to participate in the contest by submitting their entry form online (www.jeromes.com) or in-person at any of the seven southern California Jerome’s showrooms.  For each game, two winners are selected at random and will enjoy tickets to watch the San Diego Chargers in Jerome’s recliners right on the field, to see the players up-close.  Winners receive $40 in “Q Cash” and a $200 Jerome’s furniture gift card. There is nothing quite like the exciting atmosphere of the stadium on game day and the energy brought by over 70,000 of Chargers favorite team’s fans.

On Monday, November 22, 2010, Steven Peace, a San Diego retired Navy Officer, who was paralyzed on his right side after suffering a Intracranial Hemorrhage and not found for 14 hours, from the Operation Rebound program will enjoy the “Best Seat at the Q” with a top fundraiser from the organization’s Million Dollar Challenge event.  The top fundraiser will be chosen on the ride’s final night in Newport Beach from a group of riders that have raised the most money (some in excess of $20,000) to participate in this 7-day, 620-mile ride down the California coast. The winner will be announced at breakfast on the final ride day on Friday, October 22nd.

“Our family supports the Challenged Athlete Foundation we couldn’t be more proud than to offer Jerome’s Best Seat at the Q this year for the cause,” said Jim Navarra, Director of Marketing for Jerome’s.  “CAF’s Operation Rebound hits home as we have many military families who live in San Diego and shop in our stores.  We saw this as a valuable opportunity to give back to those who have served – for the Officer Peace who has served honorably for our Country and to recognize a fundraiser, who has stepped up to raise funds that provide opportunities and resources to enable participants to heal and become whole through sports.”

SAN DIEGO — (April 28, 2010)

Jerome’s Unveils New Experience at Petco Park for the 2010 Padres Baseball Season

“Best Seat in the House” brings a living room experience for contest winners to watch the games with modern style, comfort for four and special perks

As proud Padres fans, San Diego-based Jerome’s Furniture will unveil a brand new lifestyle experience at Petco Park to kick off the baseball season in America’s Finest City.   This year the company worked closely with the Padres to enhance its “Best Seat” promotion with the fan experience in mind.   The new “Best Seat in the House” will encompass lounge seating for up to four complete with the comforts of home in a new Best Seat Lounge.   A contemporary white leather sectional, floor lamp and area rug have replaced the two recliner chairs that occupied the space since Petco Park opened in 2004.   As a company focused on providing the best furnishings for San Diegans, Jerome’s is dedicated to supporting local institutions and shares in the celebration of the Padres’ 6th year at Petco Park.

Jerome’s “Best Seat in the House” contest gives customers an opportunity to visit any of the company’s six regional showrooms throughout the baseball season to enter a chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Petco Park! Winners are selected in a random drawing before each home game.  Customers can also enter online by visiting the company’s Web site, www.jeromes.com

“We took a fun in-game promotion and just upped the ante,” said Jerry Navarra, chairman of Jerome’s.  “The Best Seats have become a tradition for San Diego families to enjoy the games at Petco Park.  I can’t wait to see customers’ reactions when they get to experience the new best seats in the new Best Seat Lounge.”

The “Best Seat in the House” experience includes four tickets to enjoy a Padres game from special field-view seating on a comfortable sofa from Jerome’s Furniture. Beyond the luxury seating and view, winners receive more special perks that add to the overall experience.  The recipients get a special prize pack of goodies from Jerome’s and the Padres, a chance to win a $250 gift certificate to Jerome’s at select home games, and recognition during the game over Petco Park’s PA system where thousands of San Diegans cheer on the winners!

Jerome’s Receives Business of the Quarter Award

San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary honors hometown furniture store

SAN DIEGO — (March 24, 2010)

On March 24, 2010,  Judy Bambace, a research attorney with the Court of Appeals, presented the following recognition to  Jerry Navarra, chairman of Jerome’s.  Jerry was personally humbled and blown away by the accolades.  He shared his pride and thanks in making Jerome’s a great San Diego company!

As Rotarians, we understand that each of us makes a valuable contribution to a better society through daily activities in a business or profession.  One of the ways we recognize the dignity of employment and the high ethical standards in all vocations is by honoring exemplary service of companies in our community through the Business of the Quarter award.

This morning, I have the distinct honor of presenting this award to Jerome’s Furniture, a company that represents fair and ethical business practices, standards of workplace excellence and commitment to the local community.  Family-owned and operated, Jerome’s recently celebrated its 55th year in business since its founding in 1954 by Jerry’s parents, Jim and Esther Navarra.  The award-winning company has been continually recognized for its achievements in furniture retail and business leadership, its everyday low prices, friendly customer service and wide selection of products.  The Jerome’s brand is well-known within San Diego’s business landscape and the third generation of the family business continues to serve in leadership roles to further position the company for a strong future.

Jerome’s stands out as a multi-million dollar business employing 370 people in six locations in San Diego County, plus its newest location in the City of Murietta.  Key to the company’s growth and success are its investment in and focus on the San Diego marketplace; a highly developed business model focused on providing value; and a consistent dedication to customer satisfaction.  Jerome’s claims to be in the “relationship business,” citing exceptional relationships with its manufacturers, loyal and new customers, and dedicated employees.

When I asked Jerry about the high ethical standards that have earned the company so much recognition, he explained that in a family business, the moral code of the business can take on the values of the family.  Jerry’s father Jim lived by many axioms passed down through generations.  He insisted that you always give more than you take.  In that spirit, the company is known for the exceptional furniture values it provides.  Jerry says, “We treat people the way we want to be treated.”

One of the components of Jerome’s business model for marketing is based on having a very competitive price every day – no sales, no haggling and no long-term financing promotion – so that the purchase is driven by a combination of the inherent value of the product and the price.  The assumption is that the customer is intelligent and wants to be treated as such.

The company has very demanding standards with respect to its employees, yet turnover is relatively low.  Being a family business, Jerome’s treats its employees like family – taking the time to explain things, being more patient and being appreciative of what people do.  If an employee is experiencing financial difficulty, the company and other employees typically offer support.  As a result, the work environment is one of trust and friendship.

Jerome’s equity in the local community is one of the cornerstones of what has built its trust with San Diegans over the years. With charitable giving at the core of Jerome’s business values, the company donates time and funds to various non-profits including YWCA’s Becky’s House; the San Diego Women’s Foundation; the Business Link at USD; the San Diego Food Bank; Special Olympics; South Bay Community Services; and countless sports and education programs throughout the county. Jerry’s favorite charitable endeavors include scholarships for disadvantaged students at St. Augustine High School, and grants to Voices for Children, the San Diego Natural History Museum and Veterans Village. Additionally, Jerome’s has partnered with 10 News’ Extreme Makeover My Hometown, donating more than $10,000 worth of furniture for a project to redo a San Diego women’s shelter.  The company has assisted victims of national disasters, and in 2007, Jerome’s participated in wildfire relief programs to benefit hundreds of residents who lost their homes in the wildfires.  And, as all San Diegans know, there is no better seat at Petco Park than the one offered by Jerome’s.  During the 2009 baseball season, Jerome’s awarded the Best Seat in the House to more than 160 Padres fans.

The Navarra family and Jerome’s employees know that good business is built by good people who understand the needs of their customers, whether through sales or charity service.   It’s no wonder they have been the recipients of numerous awards and honors, such as “Store of the Year,” “Best Place to Shop for Furniture” and a Lifetime Achievement Award given jointly by the furniture industry and the City of Hope.  And now, in recognition of Jerome’s continued commitment to fair and ethical business practices and community involvement , the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club’s Business of the Quarter award. Here to accept the award is the chairman and pitchman of Jerome’s Furniture, Jerry Navarra.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Family-owned and operated in San Diego, Jerome’s Furniture today officially announced to customers that the company was awarded with the San Diego National Bank Founders Award at the 2008 Family-Owned & Closely-Held Business Awards Ceremony, hosted by the San Diego Business Journal at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar.

On November 5, nearly 400 guests attended the ceremony, which recognized the accomplishments of businesses in San Diego County that are family owned or closely held. Nine businesses were honored in three categories — small, medium and large, and four Special Diamond Sponsor Awards were given to select participants.  Jerome’s currently employs 370 employees in the county, with seven of those employees being members of the Navarra family.

“We are so honored to receive this award from the San Diego Business Journal,” said Jim Navarra, Marketing Manager, who accepted the award on behalf of Jerome’s. “Jerome’s was started by my grandparents, Jim and Esther Navarra, in 1954, and now, the third generation of the Navarra family is deeply involved in the business. We take great pride in being a family-run company, and having worked together for so many years, we truly understand how to run the business successfully as a family.”

Charitable giving is at the core of Jerome’s business values. As such, the company works with a variety of charities throughout San Diego, including the YWCA’s Becky’s House, a nonprofit shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children, and Cortez Hill Family Center, which provides homeless children and their parents with short-term transitional housing.

Additionally, the company also supports My Sister’s Closet Thrift Stores, whose sales proceeds are used to fund the YWCA’s programs and services; the San Diego Women’s Foundation, which educates and inspires women to engage in significant and sustainable philanthropy throughout the San Diego region; and Business Link at USD, which fosters relationships and collaboration between the university and the corporate community.

August 23, 2008

SAN DIEGO, CA — Family-owned and operated in San Diego, Jerome’s Furniture officially announced today its company-wide support for The San Diego Food Bank (SDFB) annual Holiday Food Drive running through December 31.   Jerry Navarra, chairman of Jerome’s, is serving as this year’s Honorary Chair of the Food Drive alongside City leaders including Mayor Jerry Sanders, the SDFB’s esteemed Board of Directors, employees and volunteers, to encourage local community members to support donations to the SDFB’s Holiday Food Drive.

“Our father, Jim Navarra, instilled in us the importance of charitable giving – to lend a hand to those who need it,” said Adeline Williams, Human Resources Director for Jerome’s.  “It’s those family values that are ingrained in how we do business today, and why we’re so thankful to be able to support the community.  We’re all proud to be part of the Food Bank’s hugely positive impact for San Diego’s welfare and support Jerry’s leadership role this year.”

Jerome’s has re-established its company-wide food drive to encourage employees to donate food to the Food Bank and will create drop-off locations at its six local stores to provide an additional venue for the SDFB (located at 9850 Distribution Avenue), VONS, Wells Fargo and other businesses across San Diego, to donate food.

The lucky recipients will get to watch the game in the comfort of a Jerome's leather recliner, right on the field!

Winners will be selected in a random drawing and will be contacted by phone on Thursday, November 27. The prize encompasses two tickets to a San Diego Chargers home game at Qualcomm Stadium; on-the-field seats in leather seating recliners from Jerome's; forty dollars in "Q Cash" to buy food & drinks at the game; a $200 Jerome's Furniture Gift Card; and recognition during the game on the Chargers Jumbotron.

“As San Diego’s safety net we need the community’s support now more than ever to meet the huge increase in demand from families affected by the economic crisis. With our supplies running dangerously low we are truly grateful to Jerome’s for helping the Food Bank during our time of need.  Jerome’s support for the San Diego Food Bank demonstrates its commitment to the San Diego community and our shared mission to help families in need this holiday season,” said J. Jerome’s Furniture, San Diego Named as WHFA 2008 Retailer of the Year

February 19, 2008

SAN DIEGO, CA — The Western Home Furnishings Association (WHFA) announced that Jerome’s Furniture of San Diego is the winner of its annual Retailer of the Year Award. Lee Goodman, President & CEO of Jerome’s Furniture, along with store owners Jerry Navarra, Chairman, and Ann Navarra, Vice-President of Finance, will be honored with the award.

“It’s such a special feeling, frankly, to be recognized by the industry you love so much and enjoy being such a part of,” said Goodman. “For each of our employees, this is a tremendous honor that everyone greatly appreciates,” said Goodman.

Jerome’s Furniture was founded in 1954 by Jim & Esther Navarra, and is still owned and operated by the Navarra family. The 370 employee company features seven Navarra family members, four of whom are third generation retailers. Jerry and Ann Navarra joined the business in the early 1970’s and oversaw the opening in 1979 of their first satellite store in San Marcos. Over the next 10 years, new Jerome’s locations were added in Chula Vista, El Cajon and Scripps Ranch. In 2000, the original store in downtown San Diego was replaced with a large format unit on Morena Boulevard. In 2005, the company streamlined its operations by opening a 450,000 square foot distribution center.

Connection with family continues to play an integral role in the management of Jerome’s and their dealings with their extended workforce. “The strong intra-family ties and commitment to ethical standards are heavily infused into the company’s foundation,” said Jerry Navarra. “Our success resides in our long-term commitment to our customers, community, employees and their families,” said Navarra.

Honoree Lee Goodman, himself a fourth generation member of the industry, also appreciates the values instilled in him by his family and their direct link to his success. Having entered the industry at age seven, emptying ash trays and filling coffee cups in his grandfather’s store, “Summerfields Furniture” in Boston, MA, he fondly recalls his first sale of a lamp at age eight. “I still have my little blue commission tag,” said Goodman.

“When you grow up in this industry, it becomes part of your DNA. It’s just in your blood,” said Goodman. “My earliest childhood memories all involve my grandfather’s store and family celebrations at Washington’s Birthday sales. The industry has been my family ever since I can remember. It was always such a natural feeling. Through my family, I really gained a great exposure to the industry,” said Goodman.

A 1993 graduate of the University of Connecticut, Goodman worked his way through the ranks from his earliest sales at his father’s (Joe Goodman) store, Bob’s Discount Furniture in Connecticut, and developing into Jerome’s Chief Operating Officer in 2006. He accepted his current position of President & CEO in July 2007.

As a company, Jerome’s has always taken an active role in their community through the local Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) programs, the San Diego Women’s Foundation and the Business Link at University of San Diego which fosters relationships and collaboration between the University and corporate community.

Recently, Jerome’s partnered with local ABC television news affiliate, 10 News, on their program Extreme Makeover My Hometown, with a donation of over $10,000 worth of furniture to the project to redo a San Diego women’s shelter. Most recently, Lee Goodman worked with the San Diego Furniture Bank (SDFB) founded in November 2007, in connection with the National Home Furnishings Association (NHFA). The SDFB assists victims of all national disasters. Goodman sits on the NHFA Board of Directors, executive committee and is chairman of the NHFA industry technology committee. Goodman also serves on the National Furniture Bank Association (NFBA) task force. Jerry Navarra has been a member of the San Diego Better Business Bureau Board of Directors for more than 10 years. Ann Navarra sat on the Board of Directors for both NHFA and WHFA throughout her career of 35 years and was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the City of Hope in 2001.

Jerome’s also participated in 2007 San Diego wildfire relief programs to benefit hundreds of residents who lost homes in the wildfires with special tax consideration to Red Cross and FEMA beneficiaries and discounts on furniture and delivery. The tragedy touched the company in a personal way when a long-time employee of 24 years and his family lost their home in the fires. “Jerome’s warehouse was closed for three days and our business was evacuated. The blessing was that we were able to support our employee. We went through a very tumultuous time during that period, making this award even more special,” said Goodman.

Jerome’s Furniture was selected as Retailer of the Year based on their contributions to the home furnishings industry, service to their community and their personal business achievements and company leadership. Goodman and the Navarra’s will be honored on May 20, 2008 at 6:45 p.m. at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona with an exclusive dinner celebration and awards presentation. The event will take place as the grand finale to WHFA’s May 18-20 all-new 2008 conference & expo.
